From Thursday, May 5, the 50 per cent cut in the fares of air-conditioned Mumbai local trains came into force. According to reports, the railways anticipate that this will assist in increasing the number of passengers on AC locals.

On the other hand, based on accounts, prices of first-class sections on non-AC locals have also been reduced. This too is hoped to increase the footfall in the said area.

It has been reported that while the single-journey prices for first-class on non-AC locals in the suburban sections have been rationalised, there has been no change in the season ticket fares. These are for both the AC and first-class non-AC sections.

Based on narratives, here’s a comprehensive table of the revised AC and First Class fares for Mumbai suburban trains:

Earlier, on April 29, Union Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Danve Patil had announced that the fare of AC local trains will be reduced by up to 50 per cent.

Previously it was observed that the AC local trains received a lukewarm response owing to the high ticket fare and low frequency.

With these alterations in fares, the response to AC local trains is anticipated to catapult.
