Mumbai Metro: Line 2A and 7 Could Become Functional From “This” Month


According to the latest reports, locals in Mumbai are likely to receive relief from traffic congestions soon since Metro 2A which is from Dahisar to DN Nagar and Metro 7 which is from Dahisar East to Andheri East routes are anticipated to become operational for passengers by March.

It has been claimed in accounts, that post the conclusion of the safety test of the metro tracks, the services will be functional. Moreover, it has been alleged that once these services are made operational, not only will the traffic congestion on roads reduce, but rush in Mumbai local trains could also curtail.

Apart from the above-mentioned lines, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is building Mumbai Metro Line 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale), Metro Line 4 and 4A (Wadala-Kasarvadavali–Gaimukh), Metro Line 5 (Thane to Kalyan), Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli), and Metro Line 9 (Andheri to CSIA and Dahisar to Mira Bhayandar).

While the civic work for the same has commenced, it is hoped to be finished by 2022-24, claimed the MMRDA. The body has also begun the procedure for the depot proposed at the new location in Bhayandar at Rai Murdhe for Metro Line 7, 7A and 9.

Previously, the depot of Line 7 was proposed on Airports Authority of India (AAI) land at Dahisar. Earlier, reports were doing the rounds that the commencement of commercial operations for the Metro lines 7 and 2A will miss the earlier deadline of October 2021 and begin from January 2022.
