Traffic Congestion Irks Mumbaikars Amid JVLR Repair Works

On Monday, May 16, the Mumbai Traffic Police took to Twitter requesting Mumbaikars to avoid taking the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) till May 24, 2022. This has been declared considering the ongoing repair work on the said road.

Their tweet read, “The work is going on at full speed, and we hope for cooperation from citizens.”

Over the weekend, many citizens took to Twitter to share videos of the traffic congestion across several areas of Mumbai such as Kanjurmarg. Certain reports also claimed that ambulances were amongst the many vehicles seen stranded amidst the traffic during the weekend.

Amid this chaos, a Twitter user said, “No Planning No Traffic Management just deriliction of duty. Must streamline Heavy Vehicles drive on service Road Compulsory for smooth movement. From Godrej Flyover to JVLR bridge.”

Another user questioned, “Repairs to the #JVLR bridge on eastern expres highway has been launched without any planning. This is causing huge traffic jams. Would such senseless work ever take place in south Mumbai?”

Earlier the traffic police had announced that a section of Eastern Express Highway (EEH) will remain closed for 12 days for repair and maintenance works. Because of this, commuters travelling on EEH between Chheda Nagar-Thane and vice versa will not be able to use the flyover, that exists above the junction where the JVLR merges with the EEH from May 13-to 24.
