The statement made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma has created controversy across the world whereby many have expressed their displeasure over the same. On the other hand, some people supported the sentiments faced severe consequences from the public.
In a recent event, two Bhiwandi-based men were assaulted by a few for showing their support and sharing their post on social media. Upon knowing the same, the police investigated the matter and arrested them.
Previously, a 19-year-old man named Saad Ashfaq Ansari was also assaulted by a mob for showing support and the information regarding the same went viral on social media with people demanding his arrest and action. It is being said that a few people gathered outside his residence in Bhiwandi and forced him to read the Kalima after he stepped out of the house. He was then booked under Section 153A of the IPC which is related to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth and residence.
A complaint lodged by a man named Faraz Fazal Bahauddin and as of now, Ansari has been under arrest.
Besides this the police will also take action on the people who assaulted Ansari and investigation is underway. An FIR will soon be registered against the mob, confirmed Yogesh Chavan – Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 2) along with strengthening the security to avoid such incidents in the future
Meanwhile, another similar incident was reported from Bhiwandi on Sunday, June 12, 2022, where a mob of a 100 people assaulted a man after his 22-year-old brother, Mukesh Chavan, 22, shared a post supporting Nupur Sharma. An FIR was registered against Chavan and the unidentified men from the mob for assault and other reasons.
With regards to Nupur’s case, Bhiwandi police recently issued summons demanding her to appear at the station, however, as per reports, she has asked for additional time for the same.
